Charles Halkerston was a 19th century Scottish portrait painter from Edinburgh.
He was an active exhibitor including 63 works at the Royal Scottish Academy, 14 at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, 2 at the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours and one at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
This delightful small portrait in oil on panel is of Miss Woolford, aged 13, circa 1850.
It is not signed but fully attributed, with notes on the reverse.
The condition is very fine.
It is within a wood frame which may possibly be the original and it is glazed.
Picture Size 11” x 8 1/2”, frame size 14” x 11 1/2”.*
